Words and Language We're Learning
Students practiced using content vocabulary, specific verbs, language of explanation, and language of cause and effect.
Try This Together: Ask your student to teach you three words from this week's vocabulary chart. Then, use the words together to explain how an artistic activity can help someone respond to a challenge.
Our Classroom Visuals
Here are some of the visuals students used to develop their understanding of resilience and academic language.
Ask your student to explain what these graphics mean and how they helped them understand this week's learning.
Think and Talk Together
These are the supporting questions students explored in class:
What are some of the ways in which individuals or groups of people have to be resilient?
How can art help to heal the mind, body, and spirit?
How does art help you or your community to thrive?
Encourage your student to share their answers with you and explain their thinking.
Your Home Language Matters!
You are welcome to read, discuss, and answer these questions in the language your family feels most comfortable using.
Speaking, reading, and thinking in your home language helps strengthen the skills students use as they learn English.
Family Connection: Share Your Story!
Every family has stories, experiences, and knowledge worth sharing.
This Week's Family Connection Question:
Can you share a time when you or someone in your family demonstrated resilience? What challenge did you face, and what helped you overcome it?
