Hello Bear Valley Families,
On May 13th, Bear Valley will be taking 8th grade students to the Denver Zoo as part of Urban Advantage. Urban Advantage is a program sponsored by the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver Botanical Gardens, and DPS, and was created to provide DPS students with an opportunity to experience Science in novel ways outside of the typical classroom setting. There is no associated cost for students or the school.
Students will be leaving BVIS at 9:30am on 5/13/2022 and will remain at the Zoo until 1:30pm. Transportation will be by school bus and a sack lunch will be provided to all students who request it. Students are expected to follow all expectations for a normal Bear Valley school day.
Interested in being a chaperone on this trip? Please reach out to our 8th grade science teacher, Maddie McCaffrey, by emailing madeline_mccaffrey@dpsk12.org.
Below, you will find the eligibility requirements in order for students to participate in this field trip. While there are not usually eligibility requirements for a field trip, this field is an opportunity to practice for continuation week field trips. As a result, the 8th grade team has decided to use the same eligibility requirements for the zoo. Additionally, students will not be placed into chaperone groups for this field trip as a means of preparing them for the freedom of our continuation trips to Skate City and Elitches. If students do not uphold Bear Valley behavior expectations, they will lose their eligibility for continuation week activities. They may have the opportunity to regain their eligibility by engaging in a restorative process.
