Safety Update

Nov. 12, 2024

Dear Bear Valley families,

It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to student safety. Today, a photo of one of our students was posted on social media that showed them holding a gun. Our staff reacted quickly, and with the support from Denver Police, we were able to determine that the gun was not real.

During this process the building was placed on a hallway hold to ensure everyone was safe.  The hold was released, and our building is back to normal operation.

We have notified the guardians of the student involved, and we are following all District protocols. To protect student privacy, we are unable to share any information about the student at this time.

Please take this opportunity to talk with your child about the importance of being responsible digital citizens. Remind them of the impact their words and photos can have on their peers when shared on social media.

As a reminder to all students, it is never OK to bring weapons of any kind – real or fake – onto school property or in the surrounding area; this also includes water guns. Please take this opportunity to review safety messages with your student and encourage them to always report to a school staff member anything that doesn’t seem right or use Safe2Tell to make an anonymous report.

As always, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

In service,

Rachael Sutherland
