A safety letter from Ms. León

Posted December 16, 2021

Dear BVIS families,

We would like to make you aware of a concerning trend that is taking place on TikTok, a social media platform, in Denver and around the country. We are aware of recent posts on social media that are talking about threats or rumors of school violence on Friday, December 17.

We are actively monitoring any posts, rumors or comments and working closely with DPS Safety & Security and Denver Police to identify any safety concerns. We are grateful for all students who have been actively reporting rumors. We encourage all students to use Safe2Tell if they become aware of any rumors after school hours.

Any threats, participation in threats, or destruction of property in our school negatively impacts our community and is against school and district policy, and against the law. We take great pride in our Bear Valley community and take all threats seriously. These social media posts are unacceptable and disrupt our learning environment.

We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to have conversations with their student(s) about the seriousness of social media posts which suggest any threats, violence or vandalism. Students who are involved in this type of behavior will be held accountable and face consequences like suspension, restitution, law enforcement referral and / or expulsion.

Please review this information with your student. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school, students and staff safe.

 Sincerely,

Hiliana León
