Back to School!

Posted July 29, 2025

Welcome back, Yeti Fam! As we gear up for a #YETITASTIC new school year, we want to share some important information to help you and your student start strong. From schedules and supplies to dress code and upcoming events, the below headers will keep you informed and ready for a smooth, successful year ahead. Let’s make this our best year yet(i)!

If your child does not plan on attending BVMS please be sure to contact the main office at 720-423-9600 or email at bvoffice@dpsk12.org if you haven’t already. By Colorado law, we are legally required to confirm enrollment at the new school before we can dis-enroll. We appreciate this information sooner than later to help us pull students off our waitlist.

Be sure to read through all of these sections! Call us if you still have questions!

DPS Online Registration

As previously communicated, the DPS Online Registration is now back open via the DPS Parent Portal to finalize your child’s seat here at Bear Valley Middle School. Thank you to all the families who have already completed this task through the DPS Parent Portal.

This is a MANDATORY & REQUIRED legal step in order to confirm your students enrollment so that we can build them a schedule.

If you are unable to finalize this at home using your DPS parent Portal Account (see below for tips and hints), please see below for Walk-In Registration dates where our front office staff can support you in completing this required task. This should take roughly 30 minutes.

Walk-In Registration dates:

  • Tuesday August 5th 1pm to 6pm
  • Wednesday August 6th 7am to 1pm

How to complete at home:

Online registration is completed by signing into Parent Portal. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, you can create one here. After you sign in to Parent Portal, click on “See All Apps,” then click on “Online Registration” (towards the bottom of the list of apps) to complete the process. Online registration can only be completed by the parent/guardian listed in the primary household of the student record.

  • Click“See All Apps”, then scroll down to find the Online Registration box
  • Click on “Online Registration” to complete the process.
  • BE SURE TO HIT SUBMIT when you have clicked through all the paths.

Welcome Back Night – Thursday 8/14 from 4pm-6pm

We hope all our families can join us on Thursday August 14th from 4-6pm for our Welcome Back to School Night. To ensure everyone’s comfort during our event, please limit the family members that attend (especially small children), as space is limited.

  • Starting at 3:45pm, staff will be outside the main entrance to distribute an informational packet including your child’s schedule.
  • At 4:00pm we will promptly start a welcome meeting in the Auditorium from Principal Sutherland to briefly discuss our school wide celebrations and expectations. Spanish and Vietnamese interpretation will be provided via headset for this portion of the event.
  • After this presentation in the auditorium, students and families will then be able to walk their schedule to briefly meet teachers and see their classrooms!

Dress code

NEW FOR 25-26 school year, Students who are found out of dress code 3 times in a quarter will be assigned 1 day of In-School Suspension. Please ensure your child reviews all their pieces of clothing to divide what is school appropriate and what is weekend wear! We appreciate your support checking their attire before they leave school to avoid earning a strike.

Understanding what is and isn’t allowed at school helps ensure everyone feels comfortable and focused on learning. To keep things fun and engaging, we will also offer various free dress opportunities and spirit weeks throughout the year, giving students a chance to express themselves while still respecting our guidelines.

If your family needs financial support to secure these items, please email bvoffice@dpsk12.org. In turn, if your family is in a financial position to provide extra supplies, please contact Mama Yeti.

Bell Schedule

The DPS Board of Education in May 2021 passed a resolution to have all middle schools and high schools (district-managed and charters) start no earlier than 8:20 a.m. each school day to support healthy sleep habits in adolescents.

  • Bear Valley’s bell schedule is 8:50am to 3:50pm
  • Outside supervision starts at 8:30am. If the weather is below 30 degrees or actively precipitating we open the doors at 8:40am.
  • Normal days the doors open at 8:45am to allow students 5 minutes to visit their locker, grab a FREE grab and go breakfast to be in their seat in their Learning Community class by 8:50am sharp!
  • To help our students start their day smoothly and on time, please plan to arrive early enough so your child is in their first classroom by the start of the school day. Dropping off at 8:50 can cause them to miss important instruction and disrupt their daily routine.

Thank you for supporting punctuality and helping us create the best learning environment for all students!

DPS Food Services

During the 2025/2026 school year, all students will be able to receive a complete FREE breakfast and lunch for no cost.  Students must bring money or have money in their MySchoolBucks accounts to purchase things like second entrees and/or a la carte items. All families are still strongly encouraged to complete an application for their household as the information determines critical funding for Denver Public Schools and a qualifying application may make the student eligible for other benefits.

DPS Transportation

If you are interested in learning more about eligibility for yellow bus schedules, please contact DPS Transportation directly at 720-423-9600 or email them at transportation@dpsk12.org. Please note that individual schools do not manage the routing nor are we informed yet about which routes will be active for the upcoming school year.
