Letter from Nurse Kim Rundle

Dear Bear Valley Families,

We know that last year was difficult.  And for many families this year continues to be so.  We can be thankful though to be back in the classroom, even with the ongoing challenges around Covid-19.

But right now– with the increase in Covid cases– each school community is worried about school closures as well as individual health and safety.  There were a handful of schools that closed before break (and many were close to closing).  These closures were related to Covid-19 cases or having too few staff to keep the buildings safely open.

Given these concerns, Bear Valley school staff have been keeping track of those scholars who do not keep their masks on properly.  And as we move forward:

When we have a positive case in your child’s classroom, your child may be required to be quarantined if they are identified as someone who does not mask correctly.  Please note that this will mean staying home for a minimum of seven days, but possibly 10 (or more) days.

Please talk to your child about the importance of masking properly (over nose and mouth!) and about the need to quarantine if they do not comply.   Here is information about masking: https://bit.ly/BVISSafe

Per CDC guidelines, those who are vaccinated may not need to quarantine (but must still wear a mask!).  Here is information about where to get your child vaccinated: https://www.dpsk12.org/coronavirus/vaccine/

And lastly, please keep your scholar home if they have any of the following symptoms:  fever, cough, difficulty breathing, body aches/headache, loss of taste and/or smell, runny nose, congestion, sore throat, fatigue, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea (they may be able to come to school if the symptom[s] are related to a known condition or cause, or if your child received a negative covid test).   Thank you so much.

We hope you and your scholar(s) had a restful break, and we look forward to finishing the second quarter strong, with some thankfulness and joy!   Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
