Dear Bear Valley International School Community,
We are excited to announce that Mrs. Rachael Sutherland has been selected as the next leader at Bear Valley International School for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. We are confident Ms. Sutherland will continue to build upon the many strengths of Bear Valley International School and that she will carry on and expand Bear Valley’s foundation of success for students.
As Mrs. Sutherland shared in her biography, “Rachael Sutherland has been a proud teacher and leader at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early College for twelve years. She started at DMLK as a 6th grade language arts teacher, transitioned into the Dean of Instruction role, and she has been an Assistant Principal for seven years.” She also shared that, “As the new principal of a school, Rachael knows the job won’t be easy, but she is prepared to take on Bear Valley with great care and trust that she will stick with a staff that has had many shifts in leadership. She knows that the new leader coming in needs to listen to staff to learn and respect what is working, uphold traditions, and also make the needed changes to ensure students are happy, safe and making academic gains.
Rachael has focused most of her work these last few years on DMLKs middle school academic achievement in language arts and social studies. She also led the instructional leadership team on best coaching practices.” We are delighted to have her join the BVIS community! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed input and feedback. A huge thank you and our sincerest gratitude also goes out to the Principal Advisory Committee (PAC) for their commitment and being an integral part of this process. This committee served the school community very well and their unwavering commitment to the ongoing success of Bear Valley International School was apparent at every turn.
