Dear Bear Valley Families,
As you may be aware, we have been using a variety of measures to ensure our school stays open and our students feel comfortable during extremely hot days. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Due to the extreme heat that is anticipated for tomorrow, DPS Facilities has informed us that temperatures will be too high for us to hold classes safely. Tomorrow, August 21st, we will have a Heat Day and school is cancelled. With the anticipated temperatures, we don’t believe that we will be able to maintain a cool learning environment in the morning or the afternoon.
I understand this is short notice and an inconvenience for many of our families. Please know that DPS Facilities have been working tirelessly to fix our air conditioning, but the issues are more severe than they anticipated.
We plan on resuming a normal school day on Friday, August 22nd as temperatures are anticipated to be cooler on Friday and into next week. DPS Facilities is installing a cooling system in the meantime while they continue to fix our primary air conditioning.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school, and I very much appreciate your patience as we successfully navigate through the first weeks of the school year.
Sincerely
Rachael Sutherland
Principal
