Denver Public Schools is proud to be a Safe and Welcoming School District, where we are dedicated to ensuring Every Learner Thrives. We embrace our diverse students, families and communities, and believe that diversity is a community treasure and equity is at the core of our mission. We commit to building a culture that embraces the unique identity and potential of every child.
Members of the Denver Public Schools Board of Education have unanimously declared their commitment to protecting the legal rights of all students, regardless of immigration status, national origin, religion or race, with the Safe and Welcoming School District resolution. In the resolution, the board states the following:
…the district shall do everything in its lawful power to protect our students’ confidential information and ensure that our students’ learning environments are not disrupted by immigration enforcement actions…
Denver Public Schools is committed to providing equitable and inclusive environments where all our students feel safe and socially and emotionally supported. With the potential change of federal policies, students, families, and staff who are undocumented are experiencing unease and uncertainty regarding potential mass deportation. DPS will continue to work with city agencies and community organizations to support our scholars, families and staff to ensure our community’s constitutional rights are respected. As always, our focus remains on ensuring that our students receive the highest-quality education and that schools remain safe, welcoming, inclusive and supportive.
