Superintendent Cordova announced yesterday that “DPS will start the school year in fully remote learning starting August 24 based on the latest health guidance from Denver Health experts. We will stay in Remote Learning through the first quarter through October 16 to give schools a runway to launch school well and meaningfully engage students. We will monitor the health data to plan for a gradual return to in-person instruction. During registration/the mandatory Annual Family Update, families will still have the option to choose a 100% virtual program for the entire fall semester. Families who choose 100% virtual path will have an opportunity to change their decision through October if they would like their child to return to the building.

With this new information, here is  what this means for our Bear Valley scholars. 

BVIS Priorities

1. A focus on  the safety and wellness regulations set forth by DPS District in partnership with Denver County Health Officials and the CDC.

2. A schedule that focuses on ensuring that scholars engage in courses that are rigorous and taught by our expert and qualified teachers.  The remote schedule will include math, language arts, science and/or Individuals & Societies and an Integrated Arts course.

3. Intentional, structured time for students to have wrap around supports throughout the day via check-ins and  Second Step (a social -emotional curriculum) lessons to promote a positive environment for students and opportunities for students to communicate what they need throughout the day. 

4. Ensuring that all contents, specialists, and resources in the building are balanced and leveraged to promote student academic and social/emotional success while maintaining reduced contact. 

5. Creating systems, schedules, and relationships that can immediately be transferred to hybrid, 100% return  or remote  learning should it be needed. 

6. Continuous communication with families to ensure clarity as we navigate our current school environment.

NEW UPDATES

  • Annual Family Update: The guardian who is the primary contact for ALL students must confirm each student’s registration at Bear Valley International! If you have not already done so, be sure to complete the Annual Family Update in the Parent Portal at https://portal.dpsk12.org/. The Annual Family Update will be available on the Parent Portal starting July 27th-August 3rd.  
  • We are expecting an update from the transportation department by the end of the week. We know that district provided transportation options will be limited, but students with documented disabilities who require transportation per their IEP will maintain their transportation. We will continue to provide RtD passes for families who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. 

UPDATES FROM EARLIER THIS WEEK

  • 100% Virtual Learning: Students will engage in the same coursework as those attending In-person learning and will most likely be taught by BVIS staff.  There will be a minimum of three hours daily of  synchronous (live ) classes with some additional asynchronous  (self-paced) learning time.   • In-person Learning: With this option all students will begin school with remote start on August 24th. The soonest the district would consider a gradual return to in-person learning would be October 16th.
  • Health and Safety Requirements for in-person learning:  In partnership with CDPHE, DPS has identified Health and Safety requirements, including the wearing of masks, handwashing, and other specific notes, that will be in place when we are in the hybrid and full-time in-person learning contexts.  Information is available at dpsk12.org.

Accessing Technology:  We are committed to ensuring that every student has the device and the Internet access they need to successfully engage in remote learning.  While many of our parents responded to the district technology survey several weeks ago, we will also soon be asking you to confirm whether or not you have the technology your student will need.  Chromebooks and hot spots to access the internet will be provided at request.

APRENDIZAJE EN LÍNEA PARA EL PRIMER TRIMESTRE 8/24 – 10/16/2020

La superintendente Cordova anunció ayer que “DPS comenzará el año escolar en un aprendizaje totalmente en línea a partir del 24 de agosto, basado en la última guía de salud de los expertos de Denver Health. Nos mantendremos en el Aprendizaje en línea por el primer trimestre, hasta el 16 de octubre para darles a las escuelas una pista de aterrizaje para lanzar bien la escuela e involucrar significativamente a los estudiantes. Monitoreamos los datos de salud para planificar un retorno gradual a la instrucción en persona. Durante el registro la Actualización Anual de Familia obligatoria, las familias aún tendrán la opción de elegir un programa virtual 100% para todo el semestre de otoño. Las familias que eligen 100% virtual tendrán la oportunidad de cambiar su decisión hasta octubre si desean que su hijo regrese al edificio.

Con esta nueva información, esto es lo que significa para nuestros estudiantes de Bear Valley.

Prioridades de BVIS 

  1. Un enfoque en las normas de seguridad y bienestar establecidas por el Distrito DPS en asociación con los funcionarios de salud del condado de Denver y los CDC.
  2. Un horario que se enfoque en asegurar que los estudiantes participen en cursos rigurosos y enseñados por nuestros maestros expertos y calificados. El horario en línea incluirá matemáticas, artes del lenguaje, ciencias y/o Individuos y Sociedades y un curso de Artes Integradas.
  3. Tiempo intencional y estructurado para que los estudiantes tengan apoyos envolventes durante todo el día a través de registros y lecciones de Second Step (un plan de estudios socioemocional) para promover un ambiente positivo para los estudiantes y oportunidades para que los estudiantes comuniquen lo que necesitan durante el día.
  4. Asegurarse de que todos los contenidos, especialistas y recursos en el edificio estén equilibrados y apalancados para promover el éxito académico y social/emocional de los estudiantes mientras se mantiene un contacto reducido.
  5. Crear sistemas, horarios y relaciones que puedan transferirse inmediatamente al 100% de retorno o aprendizaje en línea si fuera necesario.
  6. Comunicación continua con las familias para garantizar claridad mientras navegamos por nuestro entorno escolar actual.

NUEVAS ACTUALIZACIONES

  • Actualización Anual de Familias: El tutor que es el contacto principal para TODOS los estudiantes debe confirmar la inscripción de cada estudiante en Bear Valley International! Si aún no lo ha hecho, asegúrese de completar la Actualización Anual de la Familia en el portal de padres https://portal.dpsk12.org/. La Actualización Anual de Familias está disponible en el portal de padres del 27 de julio al 3 de agosto.
  • Esperamos una actualización del departamento de transporte para el final de la semana. Sabemos que las opciones de transporte proporcionadas por el distrito serán limitadas, pero los estudiantes con discapacidades documentadas que requieren transporte según su IEP mantendrán su transporte. Continuaremos brindando pases RTD para las familias que califican para almuerzo gratis o reducido.

ACTUALIZACIONES ANTERIORES DE ESTA SEMANA

  • 100% aprendizaje en línea: Los estudiantes participarán en los mismos cursos que los que asisten al aprendizaje en persona y probablemente serán enseñados por el personal de BVIS. Habrá un mínimo de tres horas diarias de clases sincrónicas (en vivo) con un tiempo adicional de aprendizaje asincrónico (a su propio ritmo).   • Aprendizaje en persona: Con esta opción, todos los estudiantes comenzarán la escuela con inicio en línea el 24 de agosto. Lo más pronto que el distrito consideraría un regreso gradual al aprendizaje en persona sería el 16 de octubre.
  • Requisitos de salud y seguridad para el aprendizaje en persona:  En asociación con CDPHE, DPS ha identificado los requisitos de salud y seguridad, incluido el uso de cubrebocas, el lavado de manos y otras notas específicas, que estarán vigentes cuando estemos en contextos de aprendizaje en persona y de tiempo completo. Acceso de Tecnología: Nos comprometemos a garantizar que cada alumno tenga el dispositivo y el acceso a Internet que necesita para participar con éxito en el aprendizaje en línea. Si bien muchos de nuestros padres respondieron a la encuesta de tecnología del distrito hace varias semanas, también pronto le pediremos que confirme si tiene o no la tecnología que necesitará su hijo/a. Se proporcionarán Chromebooks y puntos de acceso para acceder a Internet a pedido.
