About Me: Hi Everyone! I recently graduated with a master’s in social work and I am excited to continue my journey in education. As a first-generation Jamaican, spending time with family is very important to me. With two years in Denver Public Schools and six years in education overall, I look forward to connecting with our students and making a positive impact in the community.
What I do: “School social workers support students’ well-being by addressing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that may impact learning. They work closely with students, families, and staff to provide resources, develop coping skills, and foster a positive school environment. Through one-on-one meetings, group sessions, and classroom support, school social workers help students navigate personal challenges, connect to community resources, and build skills for success in school and beyond. School social workers also provide monthly minutes and mental health support for 504s and IEPs”
About Me: Hello, my name is Sam Worsley, or Mr. Sam. I am the School Psychologist at BVIS this school year. I grew up in St. Louis, MO and have lived in the Denver area for about 8 years now. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology as a student-athlete at Western Illinois University and my Master’s degree from the University of Missouri.
What I do: “School psychologists support students’ learning and mental health by assessing academic, emotional, and behavioral needs. They collaborate with teachers, families, and school staff to create individualized strategies that enhance student success and well-being. Through assessments, counseling, and skill-building sessions, school psychologists help address learning challenges, provide crisis support, and promote a positive, inclusive school climate for all students. School psychologists also provide monthly minutes and mental health support for 504s and IEPs”

What I do: “School counselors help students achieve academic, social, and emotional success by providing guidance and support throughout their educational journey. They work with students individually and in groups to set academic goals, develop personal and social skills, and explore college and career options. Collaborating with teachers, families, and the school community, school counselors create a safe and supportive environment, empowering students to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.”

About Me: Nurse Katie is thrilled to be back for her third year caring for her dear Yetis at BVIS. Katie has been a nurse for15 years and a Denver resident for 20 years. Originally from Iowa, her nursing practice demonstrates the importance of supporting both the physical and mental health of scholars at BVIS. Katie lives with her husband, John, daughter Julia (a Sophomore at Denver School of the Arts) and naughty fur babies Dutch and Pippa. What I do: “School nurses promote the health and well-being of students by providing care for injuries, managing chronic health conditions, and supporting overall wellness. They work closely with students, families, and staff to ensure a healthy school environment, address medical needs, and offer health education. Through screenings, health assessments, and preventive care, school nurses play a vital role in helping students stay healthy, safe, and ready to learn.”
